PHS gets new Phys. Ed courses

    Beginning the school year of 2014-2015, Piqua High School will be offering new Physical Education courses.

    The new courses being offered are Cardio Kickboxing, Sports Agility, Hip-Hop Abs, Yoga/Pilates, Zumba, and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). The courses are .25 credits each and are being offered to all grades.

    In a brief description of each course: Cardio Kickboxing is of traditional kickboxing moves and boot camp drills. Sports Agility involves exercises that emphasize strength, core stability, and cardiovascular endurance geared towards sports and agility training.

    Hip-Hop Abs is a course which features a fun cardio workout utilizing the latest hip-hop dance moves. Yoga/Pilates is a body-conditioning course combining flexibility, strengthening, and balance into one energizing workout.

Zumba routines feature aerobic fitness training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a form of cardio which is beneficial to burn fat in a short and intense workout.

The new courses are changed to better suit the students’ interest and passion. YMCA instructors are set to teach the classes. No official name(s) have been given yet.
