Bells Ringing at Younger Ages

By Faith Branson

It seems that more and more teens are starting to get married while still in high school or just graduated. According to CBS news, 891,000 teens between the ages of 15-19 got married in 2000. A lot of those happened to have a child or one on the way. In one article I read, there was a 12 year old who got married. Now that is pretty crazy considering that you just found out about sex and where babies come from. You should be focused on homework and what you’re doing this weekend, not your husband.

In some ,I agree with getting married early: sometimes as a 17-19 years old, not the age of 15 when you are still trying to figure out who you are and who you like. Heck most Juniors and Seniors in high school are still trying to get ahold of their lives. In high school you go through the horrible and tear jerking process of trying to find out who your real friends are, and let’s face it – all guys are hormonal and are jerks. Remember in middle school and elementary school when guys would be mean to you because they like you- to be married when you are a KID just blows my mind.

Some High School situations I get it. He/she could be going into the military right after graduation and he or she wants to be sure his or her partner is taken care of, and they want to really be together because they love one another. I’ve seen this happen with friends and family members, and I whole heartily agree as long as they are in a comfortable grown up relationship.

I’m all for high school sweethearts; I’m in that same boat as well; I am dating my best friend. These young couples can make it as long as they really try, but they should wait and see if that is really what they want and who they want.
