Perchance to Dream with Eyes Like Stars

By Mariah Killian

Perchance to Dream and Eyes Like Stars are beautifully written books by Lisa Mantchev. The story follows a young girl named Betrie, short for Beatrice. She grew up in a magical theater called Théâtre Illuminata. Knowing the roles and plays of everyone in the theaters, she never knew she had a part to play as well. During her entire childhood she thought that there was no room for her to be in a play of any sort. Later, however, she would find out she has a bigger role to play than anyone else in the theater.

Bertie’s story takes quite the turn when her best friend Nate is kidnapped by a sea goddess.  When Betrie find out she has her own magic as the  Mistress of Revels, the Teller of Tales, she has to decide her fate. Ready to write her own story, Beatrice races to find a way to save her best friend.

The only way to save him is to tear her name from the playbook, so she can leave Théâtre Illuminata. With determination like no other, Beatrice, Mistress of Revels goes after her friend with the help of Ariel. Through the love triangle and heroic quest, Beatrice finds her place in the theater.

Overall Lisa Mantchev has written a beautiful series, and I would recommend it to other readers looking for a good story. The books have great detail, plot, and diction.
