By Tori Helman

J.K. Rowling has recently released a series of short stories on her website Pottermore. The collection of short stories is called the History of Magic in North America. The first story is about magic in the fourteenth century up to the seventeenth century. It talks about the first magical people in America. It says that in America they don’t call non-magical people muggles, they call them no-maj. The story talks about how some of the witches and wizards were called medicine man or they would just think that the person was an outstanding hunter.

The story also talks about the Native American legend “skin walker”. It said that the skin walkers were based off Native American Animagi. The no-maj thought that to transform into an animal that the animagi had to sacrifice their entire family to be able to do it. The story also talks about wands and says that the wand originated in Europe but witches and wizards in America did not need one but they could not perform Charms and Transfiguration very easily without a wand.

The second story is about the Salem Witch Trials.
