Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

By Mariah Killian

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is an outstanding book. It is the first book in such a magnificent series. The book follows a young boy named Jacob Portman who loses his idol grandfather. In his dying breath he sends Jacob on a mission to find the woman who could answer all of his questions.

The book itself is very beautifully written. Riggs uses such elegant and descriptive words that the reader is sucked into the world  Riggs himself has created.

The books is also very beautifully designed. Using old worn colors of white, black and brown, along with old looking pictures Riggs draws the reader to the book with its peculiarness.

There is a creepy, dark undertone in his books that you can’t help but want more of them. From grueling hollows with tentacle tongues, to a boy with bees living inside his tummy, Riggs surely knows how his book is as peculiar as his characters.

Overall Ransom Riggs is a truly talented writer, with a book I don’t even want to spoil for whomever reads it next.
